HELGA S. COCHRANE June 13,1922 June 8,2007 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear sister, aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt, Helga Cochrane, who peacefully passed away on June 8, 2007 at the Betel Home in Gimli with family at her side. Helga leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her sisters, Dorothy Jones and Karen Werestiuk; sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Helga is predeceased by her parents, Indridi and Jona Bjorg Arnason; her first husband Dan Demedash and second husband Findlay Cochrane; brothers, Athalgeir and Sigurjon Alli; and sisters Helga and Sigurbjorg. Helga was born in Gimli and moved with her family to Hecla Island and then Riverton before moving back to Gimli where she resided the rest of her life. In her early years she had a variety of jobs and worked her last 24 years prior to retirement at Betel Home. While at Betel her greatest pleasure was becoming a nurses aide and caring for the residents. She relished life with a sincere spiritual insight that she lived every day. Special thanks to Dr. C. N. Chapnick and staff of Gimli Betel Home; Alexis and staff of Gimli Day Care Program; and Jerry and Olga of the Handi-Van. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 13 at 1:30 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church with Pastor Jayson Snider officiating. Interment of ashes will follow at the Gimli Community Cemetery. If friends so wish, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Gimli Animal Shelter, CancerCare or a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli in care of arrangements.
